On the Web: the climate negotiations

In the first of a new series, we highlight sites on the World Wide Web — the Internet — where information relevant to articles in the current issue of Tiempo or climate news in general can be found. This issue, we identify sources of news about the climate negotiations as we approach the Third Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to be held in Kyoto in December 1997.

Earth Negotiations Bulletin

Produced by the International Institute for Sustainable Development, this bulletin provides a detailed account of all the negotiating meetings concerning the UNFCCC and other environmental treaties.

Eco
http://www.igc.apc.org/climate/Eco.html
Eco is an NGO newsletter prepared and distributed at the climate negotiations.

UN Information Unit for Conventions
http://www.unep.ch/iuc/
The Information Unit for Conventions provides abundant material, including press releases, concerning various United Nations environmental conventions including the UNFCCC.

UNFCCC Secretariat
http://www.unfccc.de/
The Secretariat makes available documents and other information related to the climate negotiations.

Finally, it is possible to register "climate change" as an interest when personalizing a news search or newsfeed on the major WWW search engines. This is an effective means of receiving information about UNFCCC meetings, government announcements on proposed emissions reduction targets and other relevant news.
