Bulelavata

Bulelavata is a rapidly-growing coastal community of around 250 people with a subsistence economy centred on fishing and gardening.

The nearby Buile High School is one of very few government academic high schools, catering for 600 boarders. The Bulelavata hydroelectric scheme generates 25 kW that will be shared between lighting, community and workshop needs, and those of the Provincial High School.

The ‘export’ of power to the Provincial Government will allow the school to support educational needs in the classroom and in staff and student houses. It will in turn provide continuing support for Bulelavata’s trained residents to maintain and expand their power system, as well as to monitor and report on greenhouse reduction effects under the AIJ agreement.
